Why I hope Trump doesn’t run in 2024 & DeSantis does (caveat: if Trump is the candidate, I will vote for him.)
 
1. Trump's age. He will be 78.  We need to stop electing anyone this old IMO. We all know faculties can decline quickly at that age and we, as a country, can’t risk that.

2. Ego. Trump still wants to relitigate 2020 & his poor treatment by the press & Russiagate etc. I understand his anger, I do. I just think our country is in such bad shape, we need someone who is laser focused on turning the mess around, not revenge.

3. Supportive Partner. I don’t think it’s a secret Melania didn’t enjoy politics.  Casey DeSantis is savvy, young, and has experience managing hostile Media. She is a confidant.

4. DeSantis has military experience. Our military needs a leader who knows how to pull it back from the precipice of all this woke nonsense. DeSantis also is a lawyer which helps him avoid traps Trump stumbled into.

5. DeSantis has deep religious convictions and understands the pro-life movement in ways Trump couldn’t articulate. We need an effective spokesperson for the movement at this important moment in history.

6. School Choice. DeSantis comes from a state steeped in School Choice. He knows the importance and how to implement & DeSantis also has young kids. He is immersed in why this is so important to families.

7. Social issues. DeSantis is more savvy articulating these issues and getting the public onboard. Trump would too often trip over his own feet discussing sensitive topics and would lose his audience.

8. DeSantis served in Congress. He understands the business of politics and the Executive role as he has done both. I’m hopeful he could move legislation without the constant need of EO’s.

9. Personnel decisions. Trump was notoriously awful at picking staff. Grifters and self promoters abound.  Look at all his staff who went on to write tell alls or go on the View. DeSantis has shown great judgment with the people he hires.

10. DeSantis can appeal to independents Trump repelled.

11. Trump can play kingmaker, unite the party around DeSantis-- a person he helped elevate-- and have a tremendous voice through endorsements and such. DeSantis would easily deliver Florida & bring GA back in the red column.

12. Law & Order. Trump did not manage 2020 well. DeSantis has shown he has no issue standing toe to toe with leftist trouble makers and ensuring the safety of citizens.

13. Covid. Trump allowed Fauci to undermine him. DeSantis stood up to Fauci and his ridiculous policies. Fauci would be gone under either of them but DeSantis dealt with Fauci more effectively.

14. Covid cont’d. If we want real deep dives into what went wrong with Covid response, we need DeSantis and by extension, Ladapo. That is how we find truth.

15. Neither Trump or DeSantis are traditional politicians and that’s good. Trump lacked the finesse necessary to deal with a hostile press without repelling part of the electorate who prefer no drama.

16. Finally, the visual of DeSantis vs Biden or Harris is striking. He is brilliant and savvy in ways neither of them are. Trump is also brilliant but he can present as less than serious at times. Our country needs bold and competent leadership people can believe in.

Obviously, lots can change by 2024 but these are the characteristics I’ve been thinking through. //

Revisiting Waco

REVISITING WACO Not geographically, but in memory by Les Govment 160 views  It was a crisp autumn day in 1984 when I first met Jimmy Riddle outside the entrance to a church in Waco, Texas. As I approached the entrance, he greeted me and introduced himself. Shortly thereafter we found ourselves engaged in conversation. We had gotten so caught up in the conversation that by the time we were done, the church service inside was coming to an end. Jimmy told me he was a member of the Branch Davidians, who were split into two groups at the time. One group-- which Jimmy was a part of-- followed David Koresh and were staying in a house in Waco. The other group was loyal to George Roden, son of the Davidians' founder. Roden controlled Mt Carmel Center, which was the Davidians’ residential and church property, just east of Waco.
