MASS MIGRATION DOESN'T WORK

Mass migration cannot improve the condition of the human
race

At my age I am undoubtedly older than most libertarians, and I think that my age and experience should count for something.

For most of my adult life I've favored easy immigration. In my heart, I still think that a person should be able to go wherever they need to in order to put food on the table, clothes on their back and a roof over their head.

But in case anybody didn't notice, hunger has been on the decline across the globe. Now, fewer people than ever need to migrate to find the necessities of life.

There are 7.7 billion people on earth divided into a variety of different cultures. Some of those cultures are quite incompatible with one another. Muslim dominated Middle Eastern culture in particular is quite anathema toward the concept of liberty. Several European countries have been experiencing bad results (such as an increase in sexual assaults) from the large influx of people from the Middle East and northern Africa.

America doesn't have a Muslim immigrant problem like Europe has. But there have been organized caravans of large numbers of migrants coming to America's southern border. The current mess on the southern border has not been good for the migrants. They would've been better off staying in their home countries.

Libertarians need to come to grips with this reality: If the Democrats succeed in welcoming more migrants into the country, and giving citizenship to them and to the millions of people who are in the country illegally, it will result in demographic changes in America that will be increasingly hostile to libertarianism.

And here's another undeniable reality: open borders and the welfare state are an unsustainable combination.

With those realities in mind, I'll state what should be obvious: In a world of nearly 8 billion people, mass migration doesn't work anymore. It worked prior to the 20th century. And the large influx of Europeans into America in the first half of the 20th century worked well, both economically and culturally. But that era is over.

The only way freedom and prosperity can become reality for everyone on earth, is if people of all nations work toward fixing what's wrong in their respective homelands.

Mass migration will not result in more freedom and prosperity for more people. //
